WQED Pittsburgh, honored with the 2007 and 2006 Mid-Atlantic Emmy® Award for Station Excellence, was founded in 1954 as the nation's first community-supported broadcaster. WQED creates, produces and distributes quality programs, products and services to engage, inform, educate and entertain the public within its community and around the world. WQED Pittsburgh is one of the first broadcasters in the country to be fully high-definition (HD) in its studio and field production capabilities. It is the parent company of WQED-TV (PBS); WQED: The Neighborhood Channel; WQED: The Create Channel; Classical WQED-FM 89.3/Pittsburgh; WQEJ-FM 89.7/Johnstown; local and national television and radio productions; WQED Interactive (www.wqed.org); and The WQED Education Department.

Account Executive

The Account Executive is responsible for generating revenue for WQED Multimedia by developing and furthering relationships with clients to insure continued support for the organization's broadcast products and services.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and present proposals to meet pre-determined needs of client for presentations.
  • Write contract request forms.
  • Develop schedule of announcements and deliver to FM and Production Assistant for traffic placement.
  • Write announcements for client approval and deliver to FM traffic person and/or Production Assistant along with video components.
  • Develop promotional and/or underwriting ideas for clients.
  • Collect payment from clients.
  • Generate new business through targeting prospects.
  • Maintain up-to-date information of broadcast businesses as well as client business.
  • Develop a list of targeted media and matching prospect's needs with WQED program/strategies.
  • Contact prospective client – pre-determine needs and set up appointments.
  • Volunteer for station events and perform other company projects as needed.

Required education and skills:

  • Associate's Degree or equivalent experience is required. A Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
  • One year of sales and marketing experience, preferably in the broadcast industry, is required.
  • Candidate must have a working knowledge of sales techniques and broadcast industry sales along with excellent customer service and social media skills.

Data Metrics Analyst

Reports to: President and CEO

This position performs analysis of data of various types and procedures clear reporting to answer business problems/questions, provide customer insights and recommend courses of action to senior leadership.  Position provides high level data analysis to enable business to operate more effectively in a variety of areas.  Responsible for compiling, validating, and analyzing data that is used to build a variety of integral reports that are used by both senior leadership and support staff.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Compiles monthly data on key metrics from across the organization to build Frameworks and Detailed Quality Reports.
  • Manually fixes any relevant data that may have been compromised. 
  • Gathers, integrates and processes data from multiple, disparate, automated and manual sources.
  • Performs analysis, runs various mathematical calculations to determine how data samples might be best applied to non-profit business.
  • Answers any requests from supervisory staff for data and/or new reports. 
  • Compiles new models/reports upon request to assist support staff and executives. 
  • Provides technical expertise on the selection and use of software analytical tools.
  • Monitors performance measures, identifies trends and provides inputs to program management.
  • Conduct data analysis and discovery to identify trends and correlations to uncover insights.  Recommends information that should be analyzed based on key indicators, works to determine root cause and/or identify specific areas of concern.
  • Development and maintenance of data dictionary (business and technical definitions and calculations).
  • Updates a Client Services staffing model to gauge productivity for the various support teams, as well as recommend additional staffing when new business is expected. 
  • Answers client inquires pertaining to relevant data
  • Maintain analytical tools, reporting and dashboards including maintenance of data to support station analytic needs and ensuring accuracy and consistency of key data sets, reports and metrics.
  • Complete monthly, quarterly and adhoc station reporting and data analysis.  Respond to executive requests and other functions.  This includes developing queries and/or gathering data from various sources; in addition, may interpret the data to provide value added analysis.
  • Partner with IT on station data updates, testing, communication and change management.
  • Conduct data analysis and discovery to identify trends and correlations to uncover insights.  Recommends information that should be analyzed on key indicators, works to determine root cause and or/identify specific areas of concern.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required education and skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Management Systems, Business Analytics or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum three year’s experience in business operations, data analysis or systems development or equivalent combination of education/experience.
  • Experience with descriptive statistics and software/programming language (OBIEE, Microsoft Suite, Tableau, SAS, SPSS or R) or SQL experience and an understanding of database design principles.
  • Advanced user of computer software including MS Excel, PowerPoint, Pivot Tables, Power Pivot, SharePoint and PowerQuery.
  • Ability to learn other software programs utilized by the department. Proficiency in Word, Excel and data base experience.

Managing Director of Corporate and Community Affairs

Reports to: President and CEO

The Managing Director of Corporate and Community Affairs will advance WQED’s vision, goals and culture among external and internal audiences, furthering a favorable, vibrant business climate. This dynamic approach encompasses public relations, media relations, internal communications, social media, government and community affairs, as well as, foundation support. This position is a member of the management team, reporting to the CEO.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide strategic direction and leadership in the design and implementation of community, communications and development initiatives, as they align with and support the strategic plan.
  • Create and maintain a consistent, favorable public image for WQED through relationship-building, branding, and communication/marketing across multiple communications platforms.
  • Work collaboratively with internal staff and Board of Directors, as well as external audiences, including community partners, membership family, funders, elected officials, and media, to achieve organizational goals and objectives.
  • Lead and support communications efforts to build brand trust and reputation; ensuring favorable public perception.
  • Develop, direct, and nurture strategic partnerships in both the non- profit and for-profit communities.

Required education and skills:

  • 10+ years of experience in public relations, community and government affairs.
  • Working knowledge of broadcast television and radio.
  • Understands the importance of collaboration and the ability to work with varied internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates proven success in the creation and implementation of community programs.
  • Strong history of community engagement.
  • Ability to build a positive, inclusive, and collaborative work environment. 
  • Results driven, creative thinker.
  • Excellent planning, organizational and project management skills.
